The Australian Shepherd Exhibits a Proud Appearance
Exceptionally agile, the Australian Shepherd can change direction in an instant. This breed is well-proportioned, being slightly longer than it is tall. The Australian Shepherd is also well-built, muscular, and flexible, all while it displays a delightful liveliness.
Size
Males stand between 51 and 58 cm (20.08 to 22.83 inches) tall.
Females measure between 46 and 53 cm (18.11 to 20.87 inches).
Weight
Males typically weigh between 25 and 34 kg (55.12 to 74.96 pounds).
Females usually range from 19 to 26 kg (41.89 to 57.32 pounds).
Color
This breed is recognized in 16 standard colors, with four particularly popular options:
- Black Tricolor (black coat with white and copper)
- Blue Merle Australian Shepherd (silver-spotted with white and copper)
- Red Tricolor (brown with white and copper)

Coat
Its coat is smooth and highly weather-resistant. The fur is straight to wavy and of medium length. On the head, ears, front limbs, and beneath the hocks, the hair is short, with a few fringes visible behind the front limbs. A fringe and a ruff complete the look.
Morphology
Its tail is naturally short or docked at birth (some countries no longer allow tail docking). The head is well-proportioned to the rest of the body. The nose can be of various colors. Its eyes may be brown, blue, amber, or combinations or close variations of these colors.
